Payroll bookkeeping in Halifax

Payroll bookkeeping connects approved work records with the amounts paid and remitted. We help Halifax employers maintain a clear record of hours, rates, changes and the questions needing review before payroll is finalized.

Use the employee’s actual role and arrangement

The file includes approved time, pay rates, benefits and relevant leave or employment changes. Nova Scotia has separate minimum-wage orders and occupation-specific exceptions, so one general template should not be applied blindly to every role.

For employees covered by the general minimum wage, the current rate is $16.75 and the scheduled October 1, 2026 rate is $17.00. Effective dates should be retained in payroll settings and time records rather than inferred from the bank payment date.

A rate-change example

An illustrative Halifax shop employee works 64 ordinary hours in a comparison period. Regular wages at $16.75 are $1,072; at $17.00 they are $1,088. The $16 difference is before other earnings, deductions and employer costs. Those additional calculations remain separate.

Reconcile payroll and coverage records

We compare payroll summaries, employee payments and statutory remittances, retaining explanations for differences. WCB registration and worker counts depend on the industry and applicable rules; the Nova Scotia three-worker test can include people beyond ordinary payroll employees.

The agreed process identifies who approves hours and rates, who processes payroll and who releases payments. Year-end slip preparation and filing are separately confirmed. A current payroll file should support both the next pay run and the later annual review without relying on staff memories to explain changes.

Questions about this work

Can you budget the October wage change?

Yes. We can organize the affected hours and rates for a forecast, with employer costs and applicable pay rules assessed separately.

Does WCB count only full-time employees?

No. The applicable count can include other workers and active corporate officers or directors. We retain the facts needed for the coverage review.
