Map the business before choosing categories
We identify the legal entity, bank and card accounts, sales channels, payroll arrangements and tax registrations. The chart of accounts follows useful reporting needs rather than creating a category for every receipt. Customer deposits, inventory and job references are included where the activity requires them.
The setup also records who approves purchases, who sends invoices and who resolves missing information. Connecting those responsibilities with the accounting file makes the routine easier to maintain when the business gets busy.
A new premises example
Suppose an illustrative Halifax retailer pays $3,000 as a premises deposit, $8,500 for shelving and $6,000 for opening stock. These payments total $17,500 but represent different items. Keeping them separate helps the owner understand cash invested and gives the accountant the evidence for the correct treatment.
Connect administration with the records
We retain registration, occupancy and other relevant operating documents in the agreed business file. HRM premises changes can require occupancy review, while Registry of Joint Stock Companies renewal is a separate provincial responsibility. Bookkeeping setup does not grant operating permission.
The first review checks complete transaction paths from invoice or bill to payment and report. HST settings use the current Nova Scotia rules and relevant supply facts. The resulting process gives the owner clear instructions for supplying records and identifying changes that require a fresh review.
Questions about this work
Do I need new software first?
Not necessarily. We assess the existing records and reporting needs before recommending a setup or change.

We can organize the related records and responsibilities. Applications and eligibility must be confirmed with the relevant authority under the agreed scope.
